Assignment Brief 1: Task 4

For this post I will be choosing and writing, I must also investigate other idents to find similarities between them so I can help it when it comes to making my future ident. The TV channel I will be making the Ident for is 4Kids which is a new channel so I will be making the Idents for.

First of all I shall be choosing five idents and talking about all there similarities and differences.

The first Ident I have got is Cbeebies ident from 2008.
What happens in the this Ident is that 2 blobs dancing about rather fast and quickly, while this is happening they are playing music as well and the tempo are all going quite fast. When it comes with the design of the ident it is all rather bright colours through out the whole ident. This is all when it comes to appealing to the target audience because there target is for children and it childish theme is good for them. The only thing about about this Ident is that it doesn't give any information expect the channels name, but this is acceptable from a children's channel  because they don't really pay attention to the information that is shown. The impression given from this ident is that it just childish channel for children which it is also mainly for younger children.

This Ident is from the channel Nickelodeon from 2008. What happens is that all the characters from the programmes jumping around and as well as that so are the letters of the logo are jumping around the screen like kids programmes characters are. The music that is playing is suited to the style of young children and matches the ident. When it comes to the length of the ident is for 30 seconds long, so the ident is an average length. Other then characters jumping around the ident this ident is rather simple it just has the logo on the back with all just a plain white background. This ident is good for children because it show there most favourite characters and the background is really simple so they can just concentrate on there favourite characters and the channel. This ident seems to target not younger children but the older one from 7-10 with there favourite.



This ident is from the TV channel CITV from 2006. Whats happens in this TV ident is the channel's logo sits in the middle of the screen then it is stretched a bit for a second then its let go and pings back into shape. While its all on a red background. The music playing isn't anything expect the sound of something being stretched and pinged back it to place. This ident doesn't really aim for certain age group of children so it makes it easier to use before certain TV programmes.



This ident is used by the Disney channel and what happens in it is the Jonas brothers have can blue can of paint and then use it to paint the disney logo on the floor in blue. The music that seems to playing is one of the Jonas's brothers songs so its fit with them being there in the Ident. With this ident it seems to target the older age of children from the ages of 9-12.



In this ident it has all these animated words dancing around the screen and with childrens favourite characters talking about the letters and pointing them out. There is children music playing as well so it seems more like for younger children. For this Ident is aimed for much younger children from ages of 2-6 with its bright colours and bubbly.

With all these idents they all aim for children because children are there main audiences for these idents.  The key conventions of these idents is that they are all mostly animations expect one and another conventions is that music is playing in nearly every single one there is music in all the idents playing, what I might apply in my TV ident is animation along with children music.

Assignment Brief 1: Task 3

Ident Suites

In this post I'm going to write about how channels make there idents but they make in a group of them. This is called a suite of idents, this when a collection of them are made but they aren't all the same, idents are similar but not the same. With a suite of idents they can be used all appeal to the TV channels target audience as well as that a suite of idents can be used to re-brand the channel they a for, this is important because they can make a whole collection of idents in the suite to completely make a new brand for the channel and all the idents help with this.

What you cause use these suites of idents for is time and place for when a certain channel is gonna come. For example when certain programmes come on they might play a certain ident before, the reason for this is so they can use them for different things at different times.

For example these are bunch of idents that are all similar because they are all in the same suite of idents that are all used on nickelodeon. All these idents appeal to all there certain target audience which is children who all watch nickeldeon because its there channel this is because all these idents in the suite are animation focusing on animals like an elephant, dinosaur and gorilla.

These suite of idents seem like they seem like they are played on the TV channel throughout the . This is because where all there idents are simple and they don't look like they have exact time placing so they could be used whenever during the day.

Just like the time of the day, these idents don't have any particular time of year it can be played. It because they are a very simple suite of idents so they don't have any particular showing but these idents wouldn't be played during christmas or something like easter, they would be played in the year when nothing particularly is happening.

With these idents they seem to show the channel is obviously aiming for children but along side with that is that the idents show of how fun and entertaining the channel is. But along with that all these idents seem quite simple.

Assignment Brief 1: Task 2

Understanding the limitation of television idents
For this post I will be writing about what restricts and limitations an ident has. When certain channels make idents they follow for example BBC has certain limitations when making there idents, everyone excepts it to be how they usually are.
Typography
With typography it does limits the way they can use and make idents, for example the BBC have very simple typography on there channel idents and always have so when they got to make the typography for the BBC because where all the BBC fonts and styles are all very simple. Another ident typography style is E4 which is very stylised 

Colours
When it comes to colours, it is very important for idents to recognise because if they don't use the right colours, the ident can be mistaken for a different channels or it might just be totally be rejected also sometimes they use the colour for better visibility for the ident . For example the BBC use red as there main colour and it is mostly recognised by the public. 

Aspect ratio
Aspect ratio is the width and length of the actual size of the screen it can fit on. With aspect ratio they have to get the general size. But the aspect ratio can go from 4:3 to 16:9 but it generally uses 16:9 to be centred in the middle while showing no geometrical distortion. And example of aspect ratio's is below in GIF. form.

Adhering to the desired tone
 With the this idents creators have to make the idents for the channels who target an certain or not. If they do the idents creators have to have to make a ident for that certain audience so they must follow a certain route making it, this could be a disadvantage for some because they can't do other things for there ident because they have to follow a certain route. But it may be a advantage for others because they do have a certain route to follow. For example Ceebeebies is a children's channels so they used a relaxing ident with little blobs jumping around.

Duration
The duration is how long the ident last for. Most of the time they only show a ident for a short duration but they usually make it for a longer this is because if something goes wrong on the channel they can use it for a couple of minutes. When a TV channel presents only a 15 second ident.

Limitations
Limitations aren't always a bad thing, sometimes they might be a positive. With Idents they usually are a positive thing. With having limitations they have a certain ways to follow, with all the limitations above for idents, it makes them simple to follow and make. For example the limitations of colour that come with the certain channel isn't a bad thing it just makes it easier to found out what colours you have to use for the ident.

Assignment Brief 1: Task 1

On this task I shall talking about what Idents do and what the purpose of them are.

The simplest point of an Ident is to identify what channel you are watching, when TV first came out it wasn't needed because there was only 1 channel on TV at the times which was the BBC. When more channels came out on TV the BBC need an ident to identify itself so in 1953 which was called "Bat wings because it looked like it had bat wings on the sides. This was the first ident on British television and it wasn't as popular as other BBC idents.  This Ident was just used to identify the BBC as a channel because thats all they needed at the time.

The most popular BBC ident is the 1963 ident of the globe, it was very simple and they kept the round circle shape in all of there Idents even up to the modern ones today.

Corporate Identity
With some Idents it is used to make  corporate identity for the certain channel. For example the BBC use the global thing and when they stop using the globe they use the circular shape in all there recents idents and the red colour which represents there channel now as well.

Organising the channel
Now days Idents have an important point these days to organise the channel which they are played. When they are played they give the times which the next couples of programs are going to be played at. Information shown on them is usually helps them understand what might be coming on next or what coming on next week for example the BBC promoting people to watch the voice next week while saying the east eastenders is coming on next.


Idents for the right audiences
With Idents for certain channels they have to appel to the right people who watch and view there channel, for example BBC everyone watches it so they have to appeal to a very large range of people so they have Idents of like dogs playing around or hippos swimming, this appeals to large amounts audiences of the BBC. For something like BBC four, the Idents are different and they appeal to more older generation audience because they watch BBC four more then younger generations. Another example is Ceebeebies

Idents for particular events.
When certain events are happening on the certain channel they will make specific idents for what are happening on that channel for example when christmas is near they make ones for christmas or another example is when london hosted the Olympics in 2012 the BBC 1 made idents for the Olympics. These are important to promote the events which are important.


Rebranding channels
Sometimes idents are used to rebrand a channel and make it better, for a channel that done it was More4. Before it wasn't a very interesting logo and idents but now it has been changed to a more colourful and interesting. 


Creating the right tone for the audience
With this section certain channels only really focus on certain types of people that is why certain channel make certain types of idents for there audience. For example children channels make idents that only reaches out to children and not to any other group because children are the only group that watches that channel and no else.  A channel that does this well as well children channels is BBC 4. BBC uses calm and tranquil idents because they have a older audience so it is more better for them.



Marketing opportunity 
With Idents they can be used for marketing opportunity so they can make some extra money on there channel, for example a TV channel could promote a certain tv a programme on there ident which is only on there channel for example with sky atlantic they have ident which promotes games of thrones in there ident for marketing. 

Packaging and Re-packaging a series of programmes or event (e.g. a season of programmes, sports, national event)
These style of idents are a handful made just made for a certain TV programme that is on tv for a while, for example on BBC 1 they have Strictly come dancing, come on every year and they make a particular set of idents for it.
